The Shindellas are claiming the energy of girl groups from the past in 2021 with harmonies for the future. Tamara Chauniece, Stacy Johnson and Kasi Jones were introduced to each other by artist and songwriting duo Louis York (Chuck Harmony and Claude Kelly). They joined the Nashville-based Weirdo Workshop label run by York a few years and began to develop their group mission. All three of the ladies have been singing for years in the music industry in various capacities. Their debut album Hits That Stick Like Grits is based on no-frills singing with solid technique and the polish of decades-long experience. In their interview with NPR, Jones cited a history of women’s singing groups for their influence on The Shindellas going back The Andrews Sisters, The Supremes, The Clark Sisters, The Pointer Sisters, En Vogue, SWV, Spice Girls and Destiny’s Child. Their name automatically reminds Motown fans of The Vandellas. But The Shindellas are making their own sonic waves and have shared one of the best things about 2021 with debut album.
