Hilary Mwelwa aka Hil St. Soul starts 2021 with a tribute to the Ohio Players by covering their soul classic “Heaven Must Be Like This.” Mwelwa’s version feels like a lighter ride than the original but just as full in expression. She says, “I hope when people hear “Heaven Must Be Like This,†it will allow them to go on a euphoric journey with me and switch off from the world’s troubles, even if it’s for a few minutes. To quote the lyrics of the first verse of the song, I hope the listener finds ‘a place of happiness’ and ‘somewhere to rest their aching mind.’â€
The singer reemerged in 2019 with her single “One Life” which did well with the Sirius Radio Heart & Soul audience reaching the number one spot. “Heaven Must Be Like This” is a soothing getaway from the shortcomings of the world and a reminder of the Ohio Players’ funk legacy. The single officially comes out on January 22nd.Â
