Jazmine Sullivan’s Heaux Tales came out today and she also performed a Tiny Desk Concert. The new EP is her first release in six years and it is a project that’s she’s been working on for two years. Sullivan took a conversation she had with some of the women in her life including her godmother about how women are made to feel shame about wanting nice things. The idea of exchanging sex for goods is something Sullivan feels most women have done at some time, hence the title Heaux Tales. Her smoky instrument is just as sultry as it’s always been and she has guest appearances from Ari Lennox, anderson.paak and H.E.R. The Tiny Desk show is mostly songs from the EP and “Let It Burn” from her Reality Show album. The singer revealed last year that her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Sullivan’s mother’s illness inspired her to be a support system and start a vegan diet with her and to also never wait as long to release new music. Heaux Tales is welcomed after what most fans consider to be too long of a respite and they will be happy to know that she is currently working on her next album.
