Singer-songwriter, activist and one-third of the legendary LaBelle, Nona Hendryx in conjunction with Nubian Q.U.E.E.N.X.(Quantum, Unique, Evolving, Essence of Nubian Sistas) have partnered with feminist group JASS (Just Associates) to present Musical Meditation and Celebration of Radical Healing on Friday, August 14th. The online event is designed to celebrate human connectedness in the time of social unrest and political crisis with poetry, music and dance. Woman performers from around the world will participate with guest appearances from the author, professor and activist Angela Davis, singer and activist Cyndi Lauper, director, stage and screen actress Phylicia Rashad, tennis pioneer and activist Billie Jean King and poet, musician, playwright and author Joy Harjo. The event will stream exclusively on the StreamYard platform at 4 PM ET/1 PM PT/2 PM MT/7 PM UT.Â
Hendryx will perform with New York collective Nubian Q.U.E.E.N.X. and they will perform a meditation on healing past traumas and answer questions about how to move forward. The artist explained the importance of the event,Â
“By radical healing, we’re acknowledging the power of music to lift our spirits and connect us across all our differences. We recognize that we can’t build and sustain strong movements for the long haul with broken people who bear the brunt of crises and violence. We need moments of shared joy and connections as much as information and strategy. Some of the most amazing music ever created has been birthed from struggle.â€
