Lionel Richie’s Caribbean-influenced “All Night Long (All Night)” was a communal pop get together. Richie’s friendly approach was inviting and the majestic horns sounded like early morning sunshine. Michael Nesmith of The Monkees produced the video which became one of the most-watched of the era. The scenes of all people dancing together was an image that fit the song perfectly and lined up with its global appeal. Can’t Slow Down was Richie’s second album and songs like “All Night Long (All Night)” helped it take home the Grammy for Album of the Year. The single also became Richie’s signature that continues to introduce him to new generations of fans. Richie’s Live From Las Vegas album was released in 2019.
