Janet Jackson’s “Song Of A Gun ( I Bet You Think This Song Is About You) with Carly Simon underwent a remix that included Missy Elliott.  The song was based around a sample of Simon’s “You’re So Vain” and co-written by Jackson and her longtime collaborators Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Jackson sang about fighting back against an ex-lover who tried to extort her. Simon and Elliott rapped on the song and added layers of loathing to Jackson’s disgust. In addition to making an anthem for anyone who’s had to battle an ex, the video was another blueprint for pop visuals. The conspicuous cinematography, location and Jackson’s walk and abs cemented “Son Of A Gun” as another one of her bedrock contributions to the music video world. Taylor Swift, Beyoncé and Britney Spears have all appreciated spiders, threatening exes and the Los Angeles Millennium Biltmore Hotel as a filming space. Jackson’s album, All For You, was ultimately inspired by the breakup of her marriage to René Elizondo. It was one of the best of Jackson’s career and the 12th highest-selling album worldwide in 2001.
