Thundercat’s fourth studio album It Is What Is became available today. The torchbearer of fusion finds himself working with Kamasi Washington, Louis Cole, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, his brother Ronald Bruner and Dennis Hamm. There are new collaborations with Steve Lacy, Childish Gambino, Lil’ B and Ty Dolla $ign. The 2018 death of his friend Mac Miller also influenced the making of It Is What It Is. Thundercat shared the feelings behind the album in a press release:
“This album is about love, loss, life and the ups and downs that come with that it’s a bit tongue-in-cheek, but at different points in life you come across places that you don’t necessarily understand… some things just aren’t meant to be understood.â€
His tour will be rescheduled because of the coronavirus pandemic but in the meantime stream the new album below.
