Afrobeats artist Darkovibes’ debut album was released today. The Ghanaian native has blended Afrobeat, hip-hop and trap music to make the sounds of Kpanlogo. Of his inspiration he says, “I chose the album title Kpanlogo because it not only reflects my heritage as a Ghanaian artist, but it also reflects the mode of the album and myself. I reference culture and movement, but with a fresh twist – just like when urban youth started doing the Kpanlogo dance in the 1960s – it’s about the future, and the past simultaneously.“
Darkovibes collaborated with many other African artists on the album including Mr. Eazi, Runtown, King Promise, Joey B, Peruzzi, Kwesi Arthur and Mugeez. The singer, producer and songwriter is part of a new wave of artists from Ghana defining the Afrobeats sound and he is a member of the collective La Même Gang. Kpanlogo is another reminder of Ghana’s current and important role in global pop.Â
