Outkast’s “So, Fresh So Clean” had the rhythm of a pimp’s walk in its encapsulation of funk and soul. Sleepy Brown’s falsetto was almost three decades away from Curtis Mayfield’s Super Fly soundtrack but sonically he was a close descendant. Big Boi’s relaxed hair, fur coat and green gaucho suit worn in the video could’ve been wardrobe for Super Fly’s hero Priest played by the late Ron O’Neal. Andre 3000 took on the look of a street-savvy bohemian utilizing turbans, sports jerseys and leather pants. The duo rapped about their appearance hence the title as well as cars, Showtime At The Apollo, Freddie Jackson, Teddy Pendergrass, clothes and sex. “So Fresh, So Clean” was the third single to come from their fourth album Stankonia. Organized Noise produced the song and it gave Stankonia another push after landing at number two on the Billboard 200 chart and selling half a million copies in its first week. Stankonia was critically applauded and Outkast’s fans were happy to be taken on another enjoyable trip.
Outkast released their fifth studio album Speakerboxxx/The Love Below in 2003. Big Boi’s fourth solo album Boomiverse was released in 2017. In 2019, Andre 3000 co-wrote and appeared on anderson.paak’s “Come Home.” The rapper and actor is a cast member of the TV series Dispatches from Elsewhere scheduled to debut March 1, 2020, on the AMC network.Â
