Thundercat is back with new music for 2020 and he is looking forward to the release of It Is What It Is on April 3rd. The new album has appearances from Childish Gambino, BADBADNOTGOOD, Lil B and more. Today he shares the first single “Black Qualls” featuring Steve Lacy and Steve Arrington. The funky fusion R&B mix that he is known for gets smokier on the new single. Thundercat was eager to work with Arrington, who is known for his legendary work with the ’70s and ’80s funk band Slave. He wanted to pay homage to the music of his youth and he also had to put Steve Lacy of The Internet on “Black Qualls” because he is “the physical incarnate of the Ohio Players in one person – he genuinely is a funky-ass dude.†It Is What It Is follows Thundercat’s Drunk album from 2017.Â
