Naya Ali’s 2019 summer has been very busy with all her festival performances around her native Canada. Her experiences opening for Childish Gambino and Janelle Monáe have fed her growth as a performer and now she has a video for the single “Get It Right.” She gave an explanation for the video in a press release:

“The visuals are about breaking free from the ‘sunken place’. I felt like I was trapped for so long in a state of mind that had me forget who I really was, so I had to break free and escape by killing a part of myself that I had outgrown. The dark and symbolic visual is a Kanye-esque canvas, inspired by Stanley Kubrick meets Jordan Peele.”

The Ethiopian-born but Canadian-based rapper and actress has been building her resume with the release of a handful of singles over the past two years. She is currently crafting her debut album, Godspeed, which is scheduled for a February 2020 release.
