[youtube id=”iCB9LuyrGZY”]Debbie Gibson’s “One Step Ahead” was the fourth single from her Anything Is Possible album released in 1990. Gibson co-wrote the song with Motown songwriting legend Lamont Dozier and John “Jellybean” Benitez was the producer. The positive anthem for upliftment was quickly owned by the dance music community after a remix from Masters At Work. It was Gibson’s third album and she had already become the youngest artist to write, perform and produce a number one single at age 17 after her first two albums reached platinum status. “One Step Ahead” did not perform on the charts like her previous singles but reached an audience that did not normally listen to her music. Anything Is Possible eventually became Gibson’s best-selling album in Japan. Gibson has released nine albums in her 32-year career and appeared in over 20 films and television shows. In 2019, Gibson joined Salt-N-Pepa, Tiffany, Naughty By Nature and the New Kids On The Block for the Mixtape Tour.Â
