John Singleton’s Boyz N The Hood soundtrack is being reissued on vinyl in two colors next month. It will be the first time the soundtrack has been reissued since its initial release in 1991. The new 2LP will honor the legacy of the late director who passed earlier this year at age 51. Ice Cube’s gangsta rap, Tevin Campbell’s New Jack Swing and Main Source’s East Coast boom-bap rap were three of the sounds featured on the soundtrack.

Singleton’s film about three friends coming of age in South Central Los Angeles was a breakthrough moment in contemporary cinema. The director would become the youngest ever to be nominated for the Best Director Academy Award. His career took off and he would go on to direct Poetic Justice, Higher Learning, 2 Fast 2 Furious, his last film Abduction. He is one of the co-creators of the acclaimed FX drama Snowfall which is currently in its third season.

The Boyz N The Hood vinyl reissue will be available in black and translucent blue on September 27th but can be pre-ordered now.
