Hieroglyphics Announce 8th Annual Hiero Day Schedule

Oakland, California’s Hieroglyphics crew is getting ready for the 8th annual Hiero Day Music Block Party taking place on Labor Day. The event is presented by Smoakland Media and it is an all-day gathering for all ages with 30 performances on three different stages. The lineup this year includes Little Brother, Scarface, Pete Rock and Yukmouth, Black Moon, Smif N Wessun, Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad’s Midnight Hour, Benny the Butcher & Conway the Machine. Sway Calloway, Chuy Gomez and Mister F.A.B. will host. Hieroglyphics will give a performance coming off of their Third Eye Vision Anniversary Tour. 

The series of events will start the night of Friday, August 30th at Silent Hiero which will be a group of DJs playing the best of ’90s and current hip-hop and R&B. Saturday, August 31st is Hiero Family Day in the Park, a free event in Delfremery Park. The range of activities will include the Town Cup Skate Competition, youth STEM activation, a celebrity 3 on 3 basketball tournament, reading, literacy and some of Oakland’s best DJs. Sunday, September 1st will have the 45 sessions DJ crew keep the party going and that night Slink Johnson (Adult Swim’s Black Jesus) will be at the Hiero Comedy Circle. 

Monday, September 2nd is the day of 8th Annual Hiero Day and the official block party. The stages hosting the 30 performances take place on 3rd and Martin Luther King streets just northwest of Jack London Square and a short walk from the 12th Street BART Station. 

The success of the first Hiero Day in 2012 had former Oakland mayor Jean Quan declare September 3rd as Hiero Day in the city of Oakland. For tickets go to HieroDay.com.
