Houston’s stardom had grown with her acting appearances and singing contributions in The Bodyguard, Waiting To Exhale, The Preacher’s Wife and Cinderella.  “Heartbreak Hotel” was rejected by TLC before Houston recorded it with Faith Evans and Kelly Price. Houston’s 1998 album took her deeper into the worlds of R&B and hip-hop with Wyclef Jean, Babyface, Missy Elliott and Rodney Jerkins among the producers and writers. Critics praised Houston’s matured sound reflective of her path into motherhood and married life with Bobby Brown. Houston, Price and Evans made a strong trio of voices with each woman adding her own emotional wisdom to the story of a cheating boyfriend.

“Heartbreak Hotel” became the third best-selling single of 1999 and received  NAACP and BMI Awards as well as Grammy, Billboard and MTV Video Music Award nominations. Houston, Price and Evans performed “Heartbreak Hotel” together on The Rosie O’Donnell Show and at the 9th Billboard Music Awards. I Look To You (2009) was Houston’s last album before her passing in 2012. She has been the subject of two documentaries about her life; Whitney: Can I Be Me (2017) and the 2018 Kevin MacDonald-directed Whitney.
