[youtube id=”jzJxo1I8a6c”]Chika Oranika went viral on Twitter last year when she released her rap criticizing Kanye West over his beat for “Jesus Walks.” The Nigerian-American rapper from Montgomery, Alabama quickly grew her following and was recognized by Sean Combs, Jada Pinkett Smith, Erykah Badu and Ice-T for her unapologetic words. In the time since then, she has performed at Essence Music Festival, Coachella and appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! She just saw the release of the video for “High Rises” which has a story and message about a little Black girl and her education. Chika shared with her Twitter followers how she wrote the song three years ago and how it almost did not make it to the public. She is scheduled to have an EP released by the end of the summer.Â
