Australian rap duo REMI dropped their new single “5 A.M.” featuring Whosane today. Remi “REMI” Kolawole is the rapping half of the partnership who tells the story of a dysfunctional relationship from his past. Producer Sensible J provided the beat and singer Whosane gives up the choruses for the song that follows the Black Hole Sun EP from 2018 that had an appearance from Black Milk. According to REMI:
“I wrote 5 A.M. when I was locked in the house for a couple of days with the flu. I guess I was trying to get all the shit out of my body or something because my mind wandered to a toxic past relationship and I just needed to write about it. I hadn’t dealt with many parts of it, so there was a lot of real-time processing and redrafting before I could properly articulate the whole situation. Sensible J, with the help of Silent J (not to be confused), had already created the perfect beat-scape for me to vent over.”Â
REMI will be supporting Black Milk on upcoming tour dates this summer in the U.K.Â
