[youtube id=”_wAU5I696xg”]Open Mike Eagle and MF Doom’s video for “Police Myself” reflects the harshness of racism in America. They rap about the assumptions made about them as Black men and how that impacts their everyday reality. Mike gives advice to a young boy and warns him how something as innocent as dancing could get him racially-profiled as a troublemaker. Mike made a statement about the video in a press release:

“The theme of the episode is criminality and we made a song and video outlining the idea of ‘double consciousness’ where one has to be aware of their own internal experience but also aware of how others perceive them. For black Americans and other marginalized people around the world that perception can be the difference between life and death.”

The video is from The New Negroes With Baron Vaughn and Open Mike Eagle which will make its debut on Comedy Central Friday, April 26 at 11 PM ET with a simulcast on BET. The new series features stand-up comedy informed by social issues with new and established comedians and artists.
