Bridesmen is Kenton Chen’s solo alter ego when he isn’t working with other artists. The Los Angeles based singer and songwriter is known for his features on some of Postmodern Jukebox’s heavily-viewed videos and NBC’s Sing-Off. He has also been able to support singers Mary J. Blige, Katy Perry, Kesha and Jennifer Hudson onstage. His Bridesmen moniker confronts the difficulties of being shunned in society for being different which is something he relates to as a gay Asian second-generation immigrant man. “Someone Who Loves Me” is the leading single off his next project inspired by people’s need to connect to another person. He says, “It’s okay to be sad, to be frustrated, even angry in our pursuit of life, love, and happiness. And the more aware and vulnerable we can be about it, the more we can be there for each other.†The video features some of Chen’s friends who are vastly different from each other in front of the camera lip-synching the song to symbolize the universal need all people have for love. Chen explains,Â
“The idea behind having bare skin is pretty simple. Each person is beautiful in their own skin. I want to highlight that. In our nakedness, we can’t hide behind any brand or gadget and we have to face how we feel in our own bodies. When we come together at the end of the video, I want people to realize that we are on this journey together.â€
“Someone Who Loves Me” moves away from Chen’s jazz roots and expresses delicate R&B straight from the heart.Â
