Aretha Franklin’s long-awaited Amazing Grace documentary will debut at the 2018 DOC NYC on Monday, November 12th at the SVA Theatre in New York City. The film captured Franklin’s acclaimed performances at New Temple Missionary Church in Los Angeles that took place on January 13th and 14th 1972. Warner Brothers Pictures filmed the footage as a companion to her Amazing Grace album which is the best-selling gospel album of all time. The concert has never been seen by those who didn’t attend before now and producer Joe Elliott acquired the film rights in 2007. Franklin’s niece Sabrina Owens, who is a personal representative of the Aretha Franklin estate made a statement about the significance of the documentary,
“Amazing Grace is the heart and soul of Aretha Franklin. This film is authentic and is my aunt at her core. She was a daughter of the church, she loved gospel music, and she always incorporated some form of sacred music in her concerts.â€
Fans have waited for decades to see the performances that had Franklin’s father C.L. Franklin, Mick Jagger, Clara Ward, Mother Ward, Mick Jagger and Charlie Watts in the audience.Â
Tickets for the world premiere of Aretha Franklin’s Amazing Grace documentary can be purchased at the SVA Theatre on 333 West 23rd St, NY, NY and Docnyc.net.
