Slyvester’s “I Need Somebody To Love Tonight” has a remix from UK duo Psychemagik. The song was released today on what would have been the late dance music icon’s 71st birthday. Sylvester’s reign as a pioneering LGBTQ artist in the ’70s and ’80s opened doors for other artists and produced classics like “You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real),” “Over and Over” and “Dance (Disco Heat).” He was one of the few dance music artists able to transcend the stigma of being a disposable singer for nightclubs and earned the respect of people like Patti LaBelle. He was called the Queen Of Disco and was the subject of an episode of Unsung, the 2014 Off-Broadway Musical, Mighty Real: A Fabulous Sylvester Musical. The remix of “I Need Somebody To Love Tonight” appears on the recently released For Discos Only: Indie Dance Music From Fantasy & Vanguard Records (1976-1981) box set and will be offered on vinyl December 7th. Â
