[youtube id=”vS4NxiURhEw”]Louis Pope’s funk is silly and true to its roots. The video for “When You’re Ugly” featuring Genevieve Artadi looks inspired by Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” with a marching band of people in Halloween costumes stepping like zombies. Pope usually collaborates with Thundercat but is now preparing the release of his solo album Time in August. The Los Angeles singer-songwriter appears on Thundercat’s Drunk album and he was able to get the bass player to appear on Time. It is his third studio recording but first for Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder label. According to Cole,Â
“A lot of it is little thoughts, that I made into big songs… blasts of inspiration that I was lucky enough to receive. But it all comes back to my mission to create deep feelings through music.”
Louis Cole will be on tour this summer and will perform with an 18-piece brass band August 4th at the Newport Jazz Festival.Â
