[youtube id=”v7E84uLGqOc”]West London singer Emiko brings forth his debut single “Is It Real” with South London production duo Hilts and Monks. Emiko’s voice harkens back to R&B singers from the ’90s who had a more minimal approach as compared to his contemporaries who don’t shy away from computerized modifications. “Is It Real” will be on his forthcoming EP and he explains how the song came about,Â
“My friend Hilts had sent me the instrumental and once I heard it, something really touched me. I knew I wanted to sing about love, but I let my subconscious decide what kind, by just putting pen to paper, and writing what I felt. I’m singing to a girl, who is kind of hesitant to leave a toxic relationship behind, where love is non-existent, and I’m asking her to trust in me to show her what true love feels like – freedom.â€
Emiko cites Erykah Badu, Sam Cooke, Lauryn Hill and Michael Jackson among his influences and hopes that his music will bring people together.Â
