Listen: Freelance Debuts Your Love Single

Freelance is a Harlem-based collective of musicians co-founded by Tim “Smithsoneon” Smith on vocals and Chad “ Ausar the Ambassador” Selph on keyboards. All of the musicians have various credits including experiences playing with Esperanza Spalding, Robert Glasper, Bilal, and Solange. “Your Love” is an intense single from their debut album Yes Today and their eclectic influences can be heard in the Fela Kuti rhythms and the ’70s soul riffs. Smith explained their sound in a press release:

“Freelance represents a lifestyle that I feel is trending amongst our generation more and more. It’s a lifestyle that allows you the freedom to take what you’re passionate about and create a career truly loving what you do. It’s a movement of entrepreneurs leaving the normative social influence in order to create their own possibilities around being authentic, fulfilled and empowering. So when people listen to our music we hope that they are inspired to realign themselves with their hopes and dreams and say “Yes” to them, because that’s how this album was created.”
