The Prince estate is preparing to release an album of solo songs he recorded at home in a collection called Piano & A Microphone 1983. Fans who are familiar with Prince bootlegs know the songs as Intimate Moments With Prince. He recorded the music in 1983 with just his piano and the title of the album comes from the name of his last tour. The estate wanted to show Prince making a full circle in his musical life by going back to the basic elements of his artistry that started it all. The new edition of the album has additional songs.Â
There are new versions of “17 Days” and “Purple Rain” and a cover of Joni Mitchell’s “A Case Of You.” The album will contain a 12-page booklet with liner notes from Prince’s engineer at the time Don Batts. Rare and never seen photos of Prince are included in the package and on the cover. Prince’s rendition of the gospel song “Mary Don’t You Weep” is the first song to emerge from the album. Those who pre-order Piano & A Microphone will receive an instant download of “Mary Don’t You Weep” which will also be heard in Spike Lee’s Black KkKlansman.Â
