[youtube id=”iYp5n1TMuM0″] White Boy Rick is a crime drama starring Matthew McConaughey as Rick Wershe Sr. the father of former Detroit drug dealer Rick Wershe Jr. Richie Merritt portrays Wershe Jr. who was the youngest FBI informant ever at age 14 in the ’80s. He was known as White Boy Rick and even though he was common dealer the rumors around him suggested that he was a top-level seller. He made an attempt to ruin the careers of Detroit officials like the late Mayor Coleman Young as part of his work as an informant. When he failed to bring down the targeted individuals he was betrayed by his handlers. His criminal activity got him convicted of drug trafficking and a life sentence in prison. The public never understood his lengthy sentence because there were so many other dealers in the city with much more clout and spilled blood in their past who received less time. Jennifer Jason Leigh, Brian Tyree Henry and Danny Brown have roles in the film directed by Yann Demange. White Boy Rick will open in theaters on September 14, 2018.Â
