[youtube id=”ohbiaDoRNyI”] Starchild & The New Romantic is the stage alias for Maryland native Bryndon Cook. The pop and R&B artist just shared his Toro Y Moi-directed video for “Ophelia’s Room.” The ethereal song about using a phone to explore feelings about an ex-love shows Starchild holding a landline phone from the ’80s to make his call. “Ophelia’s Room” is from his soon to be released debut album Language. The artist who has worked in Solange’s touring band and collaborated with Dev Hynes in the past used those experiences to embrace his individuality. He explained the feelings behind Language,

“When I wrote these songs, the sunshine of my mind was beginning to set in a dark place. I found myself developing almost a surrogate relationship with my telephone. I would fall asleep at night clutching it, waiting for a call. When we parted, I would become attached to my phone as a conduit to this person I had lost. Melodies came to me all over the world. Quite often, hooks and choruses, which were catchy to me and distracted my mind from the immense, earth-shattering pain I was being railroaded through.”

Language follows his 2016 EP Crucial. The digital release date is February 23rd and physical copies will go on sale March 16th.
