[youtube id=”OgNyWBfKtA0″] Portrait was one of the many well-oiled male R&B groups of the ’90s. They were heavily influenced by New Jack Swing and soul music from the ’80s. “Here We Go Again” sampled Michael Jackson’s “I Can’t Help It,” Digital Underground’s “The Humpty Dance” and Public Enemy’s “Bring The Noise” to blend the brawniness of hip-hop with Portrait’s smooth voices. Their 1992 self-titled debut is considered one of the last New Jack Swing albums of the era but they also receive credit for being at the beginning of the neo-soul period. Portrait had three albums in the ’90s and independently released Share My Love in 2005. Their career was brief like so many of the groups at the time but “Here We Go Again” is a reminder of everything good about the ’90s and the extinct R&B group.
