[youtube id=”3KB08BJC370″] Rockie Robbins was a big fan of soul music growing up in his native of Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was a member of a music group called The Mystics as a teenager when he sent A&M Records a demo of his voice. They quickly offered Robbins a contract and his professional career began with his 1979 self-titled album. He had a moderately successful cover of Earth, Wind & Fire’s “Be Ever Wonderful” but his mellifluous voice did not reach a critical mass of R&B fans until the title track of his 1980 sophomore album You And Me. Robbins’ song has gone down in history as one of the most loving dedications to coupledom and marriage from the vault of rare ’80s singles. Robbins recorded five albums with the last two being on MCA Records before he left the music industry.
