RoyalCash’s “Radioactivity” had an essential place in the 1983 world of pop-locking and breakdancing. Darryl Cash wrote and performed the music and Reggie Calloway who was successful as a founder of the Midnight Star and Calloway bands, co-produced “Radioactivity” with Cash. The Roland drum machine and the blend of computerized and live vocals in the electro sound was another instance of R&B becoming more electronic outside of house music. “Radioactivity” is one the last songs of the subgenre to emerge before Run D.M.C. arrived with a new style of hip-hop but still has a pulse in the younger generations from being sampled in rap and YouTube.
