[youtube id=”M_FP7x322cc”] Black-ish returned for its fourth season Tuesday night and the episode addressed Juneteenth which comes from June 19, 1865, the official end date for slavery. One of the tools used for the history lesson about slavery was a video of The Roots as cartoon characters performing “I Am A Slave.” The song is modeled off of the Schoolhouse Rock short educational films that aired on ABC during the ’70s and ’80s’ specifically the civic-oriented one called “I Am A Bill.” The Roots quickly rap about the history of American slavery as they are depicted as slaves in chains on the auction block.
