[youtube id=”mWTWkKyjkoo”] Kanye West wrote “Hey Mama” years before it appeared on his Late Registration album in 2005. West’s public praise for his mother became a huge part of his persona because of “Hey Mama” and her constant presence with him. He uses the song to thank Dr. Donda West for being a resilient mother throughout their life challenges together. Dr. West passed in 2007 and many radio stations played “Hey Mama” in tribute to her causing the song to enter the Billboard Bubbling Under R&B/Hip-Hop Singles and the Hot Canadian Digital Singles Charts. In the 12 years since its release “Hey Mama” has become one of the most popular hip-hop and pop anthems for honoring mothers.
