Aretha Franklin will headline the inaugural Detroit Music Weekend taking place June 8-11 in Detroit’s Entertainment District. Franklin will give a free concert June 10th on the Madison Central Stage. Her performance will conclude a series of events honoring her including the renaming of Madison and Randolph Aretha Franklin Way and a dedication ceremony for her.
Tuxedo featuring Mayer Hawthorne and Jake One will also perform that night and DJ D-Nice will be in one of the tents to give a DJ set.
City Council President Brenda Jones and City Attorney Butch Hollowell spoke about the event and the hope to make it a long-term city festival during the press conference at the Music Hall today.
There will be a gala dinner, a Gospel Promenade and the R&B Music Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony. Some of the events require tickets. For the full lineup and tickets check out the event’s official site.
