[youtube id=”ccenFp_3kq8″] “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)” happened at the highest point in Hall & Oates’ career. The Philadelphia duo had a number one hit record in 1976 with “Rich Girl” and did not return to that place until their 1981 Private Eyes album. “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do),” “Kiss Is On My List” and “Private Eyes” all hit number one on the charts. Their appeal to R&B fans gave them the rare success of having “I Can’t Go For That” fare well on the pop and R&B charts. On the first listen of the song, it sounds like a love tale but it was actually about how they how they refused to be controlled by the music industry. Hall & Oates will start their tour of the U.S. on May 4th with Tears for Fears.
