OkayAfrica has created its first OkayAfrica’s 100 Women list of global Black women power players. The list was created in honor of Women’s History Month and their Black Girls Only editorial theme. Issa Rae and Lupita Nyong’o are two of the women from the continent and the diaspora to be honored on the list. The women’s achievements are highlighted with written and video features including Ugandan chess prodigy Phiona Mutesi and Farida Bedwei who is a technology entrepreneur from Ghana among the many accomplished women on the list.
OkayAfrica’s 100 Women was compiled by the women on the OkayAfrica editorial staff who spent months researching each women’s influence on the world.
“We proudly present 100 dope women who hail from the continent and the Diaspora—an amazing collective of visionaries, champions, pioneers and innovators,†said Antoinette Isama, OkayAfrica Associate Editor. “These brilliant women, our seestahs, are positively impacting our lives and the lives of others across African and around the world.â€
