Walter “Junie” Morrison of the Ohio Players and Parliament-Funkadelic fame has died at the age of 62. Morrison’s daughter, former bandmate James “Diamond” Willams and Dam-Funk confirmed his passing. Morrison was a multi-instrumentalist, producer, arranger and writer for The Ohio Players in the ’70’s. He is largely credited with writing and arranging  “Funky Worm.” In 1974 he left the Ohio Players and recorded three solo albums for Westbound: When We Do, Freeze and Suzi Supergroupie.

In the late ’70’s Morrison became the musical director for Parliament-Funkadelic. His influence is heavy on the One Nation Under A Groove, Motor Booty Affair and Gloryhallastoopid albums. He is the co-writer of “(Not Just) Knee Deep.”

Morrison worked with George Clinton on some of his solo albums in the ’80’s and he produced “I Care” for Soul II Soul. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 along with 14 other members of Parliament-Funkadelic.Morrison was heard on Dam-Funk’s “Junie’s Transmission” from his 2015 Invite The Light. Last year he was introduced to another generation as the inspiration behind Solange’s “Junie” from her Grammy-winning Seat At The Table.
