She thanked her family and colleagues and dedicated the award to women of color and colorful people. Ross talked to reporters during her backstage interview about her connection to the character on the show and being the first Black woman to win the award in 35 years. Debbie Allen won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy in 1983 for her role as Lydia Grant on Fame.
