Rakim, Jennifer Lopez, Mike Epps, John Legend, Jay Pharoah, Bell Biv Devoe and Doug E. Fresh also performed on the show. The television show originally aired from the late ’80’s until 2008. Â The Apollo gave early exposure to people like Lauryn Hill and has been a performance testing ground for countless artists since the 1930’s. New entertainers have had to endure the pressures of the famous Amateur Night and established performers have always known that they had to work harder to please the Apollo’s audience. Harvey hosted the television broadcast during the ’90’s and will host a second special program that will air in 2017.
