[youtube id=”ZFYG74hXUww”] Mickalene Thomas is known for her celebration and examination of Black women in her work. She created the first portrait of Michelle Obama and has immortalized famous women like Obama and not so famous Black women with rhinestones, bold colors and acrylic. Do I Look Like A Lady is her current exhibition at the Museum Of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles and it explores Black female identity with silkscreened portraits and a video that has images of Whitney Houston, Wanda Sykes and many other female performers. MOCA Curatorial Assistant Rebecca Matalon interviews Thomas about the exhibition that is on display until February 6, 2017.
