Omar Akil is directing Speaking In Tongues: The Legend Of The Native Tongue Posse and his Kickstarter campaign has 11 days to go. The Native Tongues were a collective of artists from the late’80’s and early ’90’s including Queen Latifah, Black Sheep, A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Monie Love, Baby Chris Lighty, Monie Love, Chi Ali and Kool DJ Red Alert. They were known for their Afrocentric and feminist perspectives and making some the most important music of the era. The documentary has interviews with some of the artists, journalists, music industry insiders and record executives. The Kickstarter campaign has a goal of $48,000 and some of the perks include posters, t-shirts, sweatshirts, a meal with Jarobi, a spa day with Monie Love and a game of golf with Dres.
