[youtube id=”PVhNFNYnJRc”] Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings’s cover of Prince’s “Take Me With U” for Spin’s Purplish Rain tribute album to Prince. Purplish Rain was included with Spin’s July 2009 issue. Purplish Rain was created as an acknowledgment of Purple Rain’s 25th anniversary.  Spin had a 10-page oral history and talked to some of the people who worked on the original Purple Rain including Wendy and Lisa. Apollonia even performs “When Doves Cry” with The Twilight Singers. Spin reached out to Prince to be involved with the issue but they were only able to clear the songs for royalty payments but Prince had no further input. Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings donated their time and paid for the recording expenses for “Take Me With U” to show their love and respect for Prince.
