[youtube id=”I4QP4OnHu4I”] Â Millie Jackson’s An Imitation Of Love was her first recording for Jive Records in 1985. Jackson became famous in the ’70’s for her raunchy style of R&B that she personalized with explicit raps. “Wanna Be Your Lover” was her cover of Prince’s “I Wanna Be Your Lover” and Jackson kept her bawdiness to a minimum towards the end of the song. An Imitation Of Love is one of Jackson’s most favored albums because of the singles “Hot! Wild! Crazy! Unrestricted! Crazy Love” and “Love Is A Dangerous Game.”Jackson also referred to An Imitation Of Love as her clean album because she did not use her usual suggestive language. All of her albums on the Jive label are some of her best and considered to be her prime output. Her 1980 album, I Had To Say It, on the Spring label, is a rap forerunner and Jackson’s influence on rapper Lil’ Kim was recognized from the beginning of Kim’s career. Jackson recently gave an interview to I Love Old School Music about the current state of R&B.
