R.I.P. Bobby Hutcherson

[youtube id=”2s02qPFXyDE”] Jazz vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson passed yesterday at his home in Montara, California. Hutcherson, who was an artist on Blue Note Records during their prime, was 75 and had been suffering from emphysema.Hutcherson was one of the post-bop musicians to embrace fusion in his music and he worked with Eric Dolphy, Andrew Hill, Grant Green and Lee Morgan among others. His recordings for Blue Note would later be sampled and covered by hip-hop artists like Ice Cube, The Game and Madlib. When the ’70’s ended Hutcherson recorded as the Timeless All Stars with a sextet that included Billy Higgins, Curtis Fuller and Cedar Walton. During the 2000’s he was a founding member of the SF Jazz Collective. Hutcherson’s final studio album is 2014’s Enjoy The View.
