Carleen Anderson Signs To Freestyle Records

[youtube id=”6OG0Gam2e0M”] Carleen Anderson, who was a fixture on the Acid Jazz scene in the U.K. during the ’90’s as the vocalist and songwriter for The Young Disciples, has signed to London’s Freestyle Records. Anderson is getting ready for the release of her Cage Street Memorial-The Pilgrimage album, which is also a stage production and the title of her autobiography. In the above video interview, she talks about the project and how the music is unlike her previous work because it blends many of her influences including classical and jazz. Through the years she has worked with Omar, The Brand New Heavies, Jocelyn Brown, Paul McCartney, Incognito, Meshell Ndegeocello, Guru and others.In 2013, she became the winner of Jazz FM’s Best UK Vocalist award. Anderson is the daughter of Vicki Anderson and stepdaughter of Bobby Byrd both of whom were key members of James Brown’s organization, who is her Godfather.
