Â “When You Were Mine” was on Prince’s Dirty Mind album from 1980 which was critically acclaimed for his melding of R&B, funk and new wave while lyrically addressing love, incest and oral sex. Lauper became a pop star because of the seven hit singles from the album and she also became friends with Prince. “When You Were Mine” became a staple of Lauper’s live shows and favored by most Prince fans.
