On May 6th, Rare Essence will be releasing the all-studio album, Turn It Up. The title track features DJ Kool (best known for “Let Me Clear My Throat”) and delivers a hard-driving go-go beat. Purposefully set to a pop format, the song utilizes a heavy and clean mix so when it drops in the club, you experience it as if you were in a live show. To compete with the plethora of trap music played nowadays, the low end has been amplified in ways that go-go has never utilized before. Also on the record is a dance track with the “Love King” Raheem DeVaughn, as well as the band’s first ballad in 15 years, sung by KC Williams from Black Alley. The album artwork was created by well-known D.C. mural and portrait artist, Aniekan Udofia.

Mentored by the late Chuck Brown, the “Godfather of go-go,” the band was signed to Uptown Records during Diddy’s reign and continues to delight multiple generations with a sonic fusion of hip-hop, R&B, and funk. They have received constant praise from the hip-hop community at large, and have performed with the likes of LL Cool J, Ice Cube, TLC, Wu-Tang Clan, and Run DMC.

The band performs constantly around the D.C. area. Please check here for upcoming performance dates.
