Run DMC will become the first rappers to receive a Grammy Lifetime Achievement award next month at the annual ceremony. Run DMC has always been referred to as the ‘Kings from Queens’ because of their cultural and commercial dominance in the ’80s. The award goes along with other firsts achieved by the group which includes being the initialĂ‚Â ones in the genre to have a gold record, platinum status, an MTV presence, a Rolling Stone cover, multi-platinum status and an appearance on American Bandstand.
