A Band Called Death’s emergence from obscurity to be recognized as punk rock’s forefathers will be acknowledged in 2016 at The Smithsonian’s National Museum Of African-American History And Culture. The Detroit band’s start in music during the ’70’s was stunted because of their refusal to change their name for record label executives including Clive Davis, who offered them a deal. The 2012 documentary about them and their discovery by zealous record collectors has given them a second chance at a music career and entry into the history books. The 2016 exhibit will have Dannis Hackney’s first drum, a mural and a tapestry.
