“Gloomy Monday” is a song unearthed from one of many recording sessions Jimi Hendrix had with R&B singer Curtis Knight. Producer Ed Chalpin, who had previously signed Hendrix to an exclusive contract with his PPX company to record with Knight, eventually acquired the recordings after Hendrix made it big and began to distribute them in album form. Last summer the Hendrix family and Sony got the masters of the 88 recordings after litigation with PPX and Chalpin. “Gloomy Monday” is on the tracklisting of 14-songs compiled by the family from Hendrix’s days as a sideman with Curtis Knight titled, You Can’t Use My Name: Curtis Knight & The Squires (featuring Jimi Hendrix) The RSVP/PPX Sessions to be released on March 24th. It will be the first official release of the work Hendrix did with Curtis Knight between 1965-1967.
