Cerrone is an almost 17-minute documentary about how the disco icon Marc Cerrone became a drummer and eventually one of the biggest and most influential names in dance music. Surprisingly, he was inspired to play drums after seeing Jimi Hendrix’s drummer Mitch Mitchell in action. Nile Rodgers, Dimitri From Paris, Dave Haslam and Cerrone himself discuss how his music was initially misunderstood by the French music industry in his native France but later became an international force. His magnum opus “Supernature” lead the way into house music and now EDM. The song has also been sampled inside numerous hip-hop classics as well. The resurgence of dance music and DJ culture has roots in Cerrone’s music as well as other icons like Kraftwerk, Giorgio Moroder and Chic.
